Ram (FCA/Stellantis) has issued a major safety recall impacting tens of thousands of trucks due to instrument panel displays that may suddenly go blank – potentially leaving drivers without critical safety information while on the road.
According to filings with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the defect stems from a software issue that can cause the digital instrument cluster to fail during startup or even while driving.
| Manufacturer | Ram (Stellantis / FCA US, LLC) |
| Vehicles Affected | ~65,000–72,500 trucks |
| Model Years | 2025–2026 |
| Component | Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) |
| NHTSA Campaign | 25V826 |
| Defect Type | Software malfunction causing blank display |
| Remedy | Software update or cluster replacement (free) |
While some reports cite approximately 65,000 affected trucks, NHTSA filings and multiple sources indicate the total may exceed 72,000 vehicles.
Which Ram Trucks Are Affected?
The recall covers a wide range of Ram pickup and chassis models, including:
- Ram 1500
- Ram 2500
- Ram 3500
- Ram 3500 Cab Chassis
- Ram 4500 Cab Chassis
- Ram 5500 Cab Chassis
All affected vehicles are from the 2025 and 2026 model years and are equipped with 12-inch digital instrument panel displays.
What’s the Problem?
The issue originates from faulty software inside the instrument panel cluster. This defect can cause the display to go completely blank, either:
- At startup
- While driving
When this happens, drivers may lose access to essential information such as:
- Speedometer
- Gear position
- Brake system warnings
- Other safety alerts
Without these readouts, drivers may be unaware of dangerous conditions – significantly increasing the risk of a crash.
What Is the Fix?
Ram dealers will repair affected vehicles free of charge by:
- Updating the instrument panel software, or
- Replacing the instrument cluster if necessary
Owner notification letters began mailing in early 2026, but drivers don’t need to wait – they can check their VIN now on NHTSA’s website.
What Should Drivers Do?
If you own a 2025–2026 Ram truck:
- Check your VIN on NHTSA.gov
- Watch for recall notices in the mail
- Schedule a dealership appointment ASAP
- Avoid ignoring dashboard issues—even intermittent failures
Even if the issue hasn’t occurred yet, it can happen without warning.
Do You Have a Lemon Law Claim?
Vehicle recalls don’t automatically qualify for a lemon law claim – but they can be a strong indicator of a defective vehicle. You may have a case if:
- The issue persists after multiple repair attempts
- The dashboard failure significantly impacts safety or usability
- Your truck has been out of service for an extended period
A failing instrument panel – especially one tied to safety warnings – may meet the legal threshold for a “substantial defect.”
