GM Recalls 62,500 Chevy Silverados Due to Brake Fire Hazard

General Motors (GM) is recalling close to 62,500 Chevrolet Silverado pickups due to a possible brake pressure sensor assembly leak that could lead to a fire.

According to a recall report (NHTSA Recall No.: 25V390) filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), General Motors stated that the recalled 2019-2025 Chevrolet Silverado Medium Duty 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD pickups may have a brake pressure sensor assembly defect that could allow brake fluid to leak past the diaphragm seal and into the brake pressure switch.

The recall report warns that if brake fluid leaks onto the electrical components inside the part, it could cause a short circuit, generating “excessive heat” and significantly increasing the “risk of fire,” whether the vehicle is in motion or parked.

GM advises owners of the recalled Chevrolet Silverados to park their trucks outdoors and keep them away from buildings until repairs are completed, according to the NHTSA.

The Detroit-based automaker traced the issue to a supplier’s use of an “unauthorized chemical” during the manufacturing of a rubber diaphragm inside the brake pressure sensor assembly.

According to the recall report, dealers will replace the brake pressure switch wire harness with one featuring a silicone sealant to stop leaks. This repair will be provided to vehicle owners free of charge.

The NHTSA stated that trucks covered by the recall which were previously repaired under an earlier recall will still require the new remedy to be performed.

According to the NHTSA, the automaker will notify affected Chevrolet Silverado owners with an initial letter in late July, followed by another once the repair solution becomes available.

Dealers have already been notified about the recall affecting the 2019-2025 Chevrolet Silverado Medium Duty 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD models.

Recall Overview

• NHTSA Recall No.: 25V390

• Manufacturer Recall No.: N24248268

• Total vehicles affected: 62,468 vehicles (2019–2024 model years, Silverado 4500HD, 5500HD, 6500HD)

• Defect: Brake pressure sensor assembly may allow fluid to leak into the brake pressure switch and fuse, potentially causing a short-circuit and triggering excessive heat or under‑hood fire—whether parked or in use

• Cause: A supplier used an unauthorized chemical in the rubber diaphragm; it degrades over time, permitting brake fluid seepage
