Consumers with certain Mitsubishi vehicle models are experiencing issues with their vehicle’s continuously variable transmission (CVT). These defective CVTs are reportedly causing vehicles to shudder, surge, jerk, and delay or fail when accelerating. Additionally, when a driver either accelerates or decelerates at low speeds, a hard deceleration or “clunk” may occur. Other issues relating to this CVT defect include vehicles emitting a loud whining sound once a driver has achieved speed. The defect itself, which ultimately leads to catastrophic transmission failure, is caused by a slippage of the CVT belt and contamination of the CVT’s hydraulic pressure circuit, along with other internal components.
The following vehicles are affected by the CVT defect:
2014-2017 Mitsubishi Lancer
2014-Present Mitsubishi Outlander
2014-Present Mitsubishi Outlander Sport
2014-Present Mitsubishi Mirage
2018-Present Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross
